In these final days of summer, before the
2007-2008 youth retreat season gets underway, our Subiaco Retreat House
was able to offer some quiet space to a couple of adult groups.
The first occasion was on Saturday, September 8 when about twenty of
our Benedictine Oblates, Novices and inquirers enjoyed “a day of
recollection” in and around the retreat house. During this day
Capuchin Father Peter Kutch offered reflections on “Making Christ
Present for One Another”. Prayer and discussion helped the group
to deepen their understanding of our role as Christian witnesses in our
families and in the world. Then on Tuesday, September 18, we
played host to the Pontiac Area Vicariate’s gathering of pastors and
pastoral ministers. In addition to their business meetings, these
parish leaders listened to a spiritual talk about the Benedictine value
of “hospitality” given by our Father John Martin Shimkus and engaged in
some prayer time and faith sharing. One of the participants
commented, “This is the theme we needed to hear about as we begin a new
year in our ministries”. Subiaco Retreat House will now gear up
for the first series of young people retreats, scheduled for this
coming weekend.
